The domain name ProBlogger.net is ridiculously successful due to the hard work and business intelligence of Darren Rowse. In fact, it was none less than Chris Brogan who mentioned the domain name AmateurBlogger.net in a Twitter message he sent while at BlogWorld Expo 2009. Following the lead of Darren and the Tweet of Chris I ask: How can these two heavyweights of the blogging industry be wrong?

Someobody probably has a great idea about the best way to develop AmateurBlogger.net. Why not contact me to discuss it?

What is a Blog Off?

What is a Blog Off? That’s this weeks topic at Let’s Blog Off.

I really have no idea what a Blog Off is. I’m new to the concept, and new to the Let’s Blog Off website. I think I chose a tough week to write my first article. But here goes! Here’s a few thoughts about what a Blog Off is to me.

Soapbox

My first thought is that a Blog Off is a cross between two historic entities – the Soap Box and the Jousting Ring. It’s a place where those of us who are so inclined can have our words – and yes, our “message”, whatever that is – spread a little bit further around the Wild West, er, the Internet. It’s also a place where we can verbally joust and compare what we’ve got to say against what others have to say about the same topic. Some might view it as a bit of a competition.

Relationship Builder

Many of us who spend far too much time on the Internet are always looking for one more way to establish a sense of “community” in this virtual world. Something as simple as participating in Let’s Blog Off adds to this sense of community, and establishes a relationship among the participants. It’s not a “real life” relationship with personal, face to face contact. But it’s a relationship nonetheless and we are all better off when our circle of relationships expands, even just a little.

I was invited to participate in the Blog Off by someone who I have established a relationship with through Twitter. We’ve never met and quite frankly I probably would not recognize him if we passed in the grocery store aisle. But we have established a relationship. Since he also participates at Let’s Blog Off I will solidify this relationship a bit more by also writing an article here from time to time.
